This side quest has two main parts: finding William and solving the cave cable puzzle. Here’s the full walkthrough so you can finish it without confusion.

Step 1: Talk to Eli

Go to City Hall and talk to Eli.

He asks you to find his father, William.

Step 2: Find William’s Cabin

Travel to the Lake basin cabin south of City Hall.

Clear out the zombies. Careful: a Volatile is sitting on the roof.

Inside the cabin, collect:

• A Letter from William’s wife (shelf near dining table).
• A Spare cave key (map table in the side room).
• A Thank-you note (floor next to the bed).

Step 3: Enter the Cave

Head south into the mountains.

Use the spare key to open the cave gate.

Follow the path and you’ll meet William. He mistakes you for Eli, but continue to play along.

Step 4: Solving the Cable Puzzle

This is the hardest part. Here’s the full order:

1. First Cable: Grab it, climb the rock wall on the right, and connect it to the explosives.

2. Second Cable: Collect it, jump across ledges, climb higher, and reach the next explosives depot.

3. Third Cable: Already placed but broken. Follow it until you find:

• A corpse with a dirty note.
• The Cable break point – repair it here.

4. Fourth Cable: Go northwest. Stay crouched, hug the right rock wall, and use beast senses instead of your flashlight. Kill zombies silently if needed.

5. Final Cable: Look for white ledges to climb, reach the ladder platform, shimmy left across the rocks, and place the last cable at the explosives depot.

After connecting all cables, return to William.

Step 5: Exit the Cave

Use Air bubbles in the water as a guide to swim out safely.

Return to Eli at City Hall.
